Do dental visits make you feel uncomfortable? Whether it’s fear or sensitivity, we have many patients who have a hard time with dental offices. That’s why we offer sedation dentistry.
With sedation, your dental visit can be easier to handle. Sedation eases your senses so you can relax and enjoy a painless procedure.
Depending on the type of procedure and your level of fear, one of our three types of sedation may be used. Dr. Platt is fully qualified to provide all three options and will work with you to determine which option is best.
Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is inhaled through the nose and mouth. You’ll feel more relaxed but remain conscious throughout the procedure.
The sedation effect wears off quickly enough that you’ll be able to drive yourself home after your appointment is done.
Oral sedatives are taken in the form of a liquid or pill before the procedure. You’ll remain awake for the procedure but feel significantly more at ease.
You won’t be able to drive yourself home because the effect lasts a while, so make sure you have someone with you who can drive.
Intravenous, or IV, sedation is injected directly into the vein, where the sedative begins working immediately. You’ll become much less aware of your surroundings and may not remember the procedure.
The effects of IV sedation last longer and you’ll have to have someone else drive you home.
The cost of sedation can sometimes turn people away from using it. Nitrous oxide and oral sedation methods cost less than IV sedation. In some cases, your dental insurance may help but sedation is generally not covered.
To help with the cost of sedation, we have various financing options so you can get the treatment you deserve. For a more accurate estimate and information, feel free to call our office at 719-355-7420 and we can help you.
If you’re looking into dental implants and want to relax during your procedure, our sedation options might be right for you. You shouldn’t have to worry about getting your implants.
