At Lasting Impressions Dental Care, we want all of our patients to experience the unique benefits of dental implants. However, a dental implant requires ample jawbone mass and gum tissue to support it, so some patients don’t immediately qualify for the procedure. Fortunately, Dr. Platt offers supplemental treatments that will get your smile ready for implants.
While supplemental treatments will prolong your implant process timeline, they’re a worthwhile investment. The supplemental treatments we provide most often are bone grafting and tissue regeneration.
Jawbone deterioration begins almost immediately after you lose a tooth, preventing otherwise perfect patients from immediately qualifying for dental implant placement. Fortunately, there’s a simple procedure called bone grafting that will strengthen your jawbone. This procedure involves Dr. Platt surgical attaching a small amount of grafting material to the concerned area. As the surgical site heals, it’ll regrow healthy new bone.
One type of bone graft is called a sinus lift augmentation which focuses on adding bone to the upper back of the jawbone. Dr. Platt has mastered a technique that he now trains other dentists to use. This new approach to the procedure makes it more comfortable for the patient, and more predictable compared to the old “lateral window” approach in terms of success.
Before Dr. Platt’s innovation, these types of procedures were arduous, invasive, and lasted two to three hours. The new process only takes about an hour, and the surgical site can be used afterward to place a dental implant. Truly a win-win for the patient.
Some of our patients suffer from gum disease — a condition that can develop as a result of tooth loss. While it’s easy to treat, advanced periodontitis is a severe condition that can wreak havoc on your smile and threaten the success of your future dental implants.
Dr. Platt will cure your gum disease by combining two high-power technologies: ultrasonic scaling and Diode laser therapy.
The process involves scaling and root planing treatment which removes disease-causing bacteria and tartar from the root surfaces. From there, we’ll use the Diode laser to kill bacteria on your gum tissue. By combining these two treatments, we can clear the harmful bacteria from both your gums and tooth surfaces.
Now that we’ve completed the necessary remedies to your smile, you can start the implant process. Contact Lasting Impressions Dental Care at 719-355-7420 to schedule a consultation with our Colorado Springs implant dentist, Dr. Jeffery Platt.
